It all started in the soil

It started prosaically – with ordinary fig trees and pomegranates. But an ordinary garden soon stopped being enough for me. I fell for tropical plants. They're wild, authentic, and their genetic makeup carries the history of rainforests that the modern world pushed aside long ago. I discovered that with tropical species, the "old school" rules don't apply. You don't have to be a breeder to have a gem at home. All it takes is the courage to try.

We're not a shop. We're an expedition.

My day doesn't look like ordinary work. It's hours of observing, experimenting and waiting. Morning coffee while watching new shoots, studying rainforest conditions, and patiently waiting for the first fruit. Many of the species I grow at Kaykinia are unknown to the ordinary world – and that's exactly where the magic lies. I don't want to offer you what you'll find on a supermarket shelf. I want to open the door for you to flavours no one has named yet.

A rainforest in your living room? Yes.

The myth that exotic plants need a greenhouse? Forget it. We live in Slovakia, and it's right here, in an apartment block or behind a window, that the true resilience of these plants shows itself. A rainforest doesn't need hectares. It needs someone to give it a chance and create the right conditions on a small scale.
